Febraban Launches a Free Generative AI Assistant on WhatsApp to Help Brazilians Organise Their Finances
The Brazilian Federation of Banks (Febraban) has launched a free generative AI assistant, built with Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Flexa Cloud, to help people organise their personal finances, Times Brasil/CNBC reported on October 25. The tool offers guidance on household budgets, debt, saving and investment planning without recommending financial products or specific institutions.
The assistant is part of Meu Bolso em Dia, Febraban’s financial education platform, and can be reached on WhatsApp, through a direct link or from the platform’s home page. Users can type or send audio, and answers come in plain language. It can also run a financial health diagnosis using the I-SFB index, identifying problems such as insufficient income or disorganised spending and offering personalised recommendations supported by predictive modelling. Answers draw only on official Meu Bolso em Dia content and material from institutional partners, including e-books, free courses, spreadsheets, videos and articles.
Febraban cites figures from its own Observatório showing that 55% of Brazilians say they understand little or almost nothing about financial education, while 91% consider the subject very important. Febraban president Leandro Vilain tied the project to efforts to tackle household indebtedness, arguing that technology can help people understand their situation and use credit more consciously. Flexa Cloud, which led technical development while AWS provided the infrastructure, said through its chief executive Deivid Bitti that the work took nine months. Febraban says the assistant was built without collecting personal data.
What it means in practice
Brazilian banks have been racing to put AI agents in front of customers, from Banco do Brasil’s phased autonomy for agents to Itaú’s agent contest with Google. A sector-wide, product-neutral assistant is a different model: it gives over-indebted households a free first stop that is not trying to sell them credit. The commitment to answer only from curated content limits the room for invented advice, though the quality of the guidance will depend on how well that library covers real cases.
Created in 2010, Meu Bolso em Dia says it has reached more than 68 million people through radio, logged 3.5 million blog visits and has 406 thousand registered users. It also serves as an official guidance channel for the Novo Desenrola Brasil debt renegotiation programme and works with consumer protection agencies (Procons), public defenders and the Finance Ministry’s Secretariat of Prizes and Bets.
